Welcome to the Marketing Combat Podcast. My name is Chris Kubbernus and with me is the always J A S O N the Jason Donnelly the Jason Donnelly. There's only one good Jason Donnelly in the world. Welcome back to the podcast my friend. What are we going to be talking about today? What an introduction. Thank you for that. As Chris said I'm Jason Donnelly and on the Marketing Combat Podcast every single day we know what we're going to talk about but not what we're going to argue. So today's
topic is will banning fossil fuel in advertising honestly will it change anything will it be a good thing will it be a bad thing I'm just gonna go right in I'm gonna go the or should we ban it the correct should we ban it I'm gonna go with the correct decision on this one and yes we should ban it much like the advertising of the past when they used to advertise cigarettes cigarettes are bad for you why would you advertise it especially because it was always going towards kids and it
just cartoons. Do you remember Joe Camel? I like I'm ranting. Anyway, I think that they should definitely ban fossil fuel advertising. It's not something to promote, something to be happy about, something to push out to everybody. Like, you're going to pick the better of two crappy things. So if you're going for Texaco or another. Either way, I think that they should not be advertising fossil fuels because it's bad for the environment. I think they should focus on the positives, the things that are going to help us as a humanity, as a society.
things that aren't going to eventually destroy us all. It's that simple. And I can't wait to see why we should advertise the thing that's gonna destroy the planet. Go ahead, Chris. Okay, so, Okay, geez. Have fun. What am I gonna say here? Listen, fossil fuels are a part of our society. We need them. It's in everything. mean, it's in producing this thing. It's in fueling industry. It's in the plastics that you have. It's in...
everything that we do. And it's not even fossil fuels at this point. It's just, carbon -based fuels, right? So we need these things. And when we advertise them, it's actually not doing anything anyway. It's a commodity. It's not like, it's not like you are like, I better go to Shell or I better go to Texaco, like you mentioned, or I better go to Esso or I better - Texaco's still exciting. I don't know. And I don't care. I like Dinaco. That's where I go. This podcast sponsored by Dinaco.
by Lightning McQueen. That's how immature I am, you guys. So the thing is is that this is a commodity and it doesn't really matter if you advertise it anyway. I don't think people are really concerned about where they get their gas from other than if it's cheap. It's not like it's better over here or better over here. It's not like this is better gas or people are measuring, how many miles to the gallon do I get from Shell versus Esso? It's the same shit. So it doesn't matter anyway if you advertise them or not. But to just ...
ignore the fact that carbon -based fuel is such a large part of our societies and how things run industries and people and how the planet operates is a bit short -sighted. think it's a of a dream to say, okay, let's all switch to electric. And the thing is that most electric companies, like electric car companies, they're all bad for the planet. mean, they're mining in the worst possible conditions, in the worst possible places. They're using humans in a ...
really bad way. it's like, there's always going to be two evils. There's any, like, okay, well, is this a lesser evil? Is this not? I don't know. That's a big moral debate that I think is, there's a bit of a moot point at this point because it's like, they're all evil. So what are we going to do about this? And I think that forcing people to like take a moral stance on it is not a way that we actually like solve challenges. I think it's a, I think it's a us versus them mentality that causes huge swings in elections. It causes
people to go to extremes versus finding middle ground and finding places where we can all agree and all can move forward. And I think that's why we shouldn't ban it because it's just like throwing soup at the Mona Lisa. It's bullshit. And it doesn't really help and contribute to our society. Well, if you think Chris is right, put it in the comments. Let's hear it. And if you think I'm right on the right side of history, also put it in the comments. me an email, send us a message. It's like a whole dilemma here. It's like on the right side of history, like I'm a Nazi or something.
What the hell? Hey, you are the one throwing out the Nazi words. I'm just saying that we should probably focus on a healthier, world. So put that in the comments, and we will be back tomorrow to entertain you and make you decide what's the best for the world and what's not. don't be a jerk. Vote for me. That's Chris Kubbernus, and I'm Elon Musk. See you, Elon. See you tomorrow.
