Good afternoon, good morning, good evening, wherever you are in the world, whatever time it is. This is the Marketing Combat, podcursor. My name is Chris Kubbernus. With me is the always Jason, that's his name. The always Don Donnelly, the Jason, Don of Donnelly's. Don J, Don Jason Donnelly. That's what we should call you, is your mafia name. Don Jason Donnelly. Don Jason Donnelly.

I have, I have, I have, it's a weird day, it's hot in here. So yeah, so welcome to the Marketing Combat Podcast where every day of the week we bring you guys a hot topic within marketing, social media, business, technology, and we break it down from the two sides of the debate. Is it good, is it bad, is it evil, is it worthwhile, is it this, is it that? One person takes one side, the other person takes the other side. We don't know which side we're gonna take. That's up to the person. And over to Jason to introduce today's topic. What is it, Jason? Okay.

So here's the thing, this is where we got this idea. Twitter, or if you call it X, that's fine, whatever. Twitter is saying that they might be charging new users to use the platform to stop the bots, like low, super low price, just to keep the bots at bay. And we thought to ourselves, is social media worth paying for? I'm gonna say, yeah.

I'm gonna say it is worth paying for and let me tell you it's a timing thing. It's a complete timing thing. If you ask me right now is social media worth paying for? No. In one week, maybe two weeks of no social media, it's worth paying for. It's like giving up Netflix. It's like giving up YouTube. It's like giving up any of your favorite streaming apps. As soon as you don't have them, you're like, should at least do the free trial.

Like, let's just do two weeks. Let's just try it for a little bit and you're going to miss it. So I think that everybody out there, I think they're all going to say the same thing. No, it's definitely not worth paying for until two weeks later when they're like, I wonder what my friend Kimmy's doing. And yeah, you're going to miss the social apps. You're going to miss the, the TikToks, the YouTubes, the whatever apps that you're a fan of. So yes, I think it's worth paying for price wise. I'm not going to say more than like 10 bucks a month, but like,

I think two, three weeks in, I'd be like, yeah, I'll pay your 9 .99 fee so that I can play on TikTok. Chris, tell me why I'm wrong. Yeah. You're absolutely wrong. Similar to most media, similar to most topics. No, no. You're absolutely wrong. Social media is not worth paying for currently in its current form simply because you're already paying too much. Actually, you're overpaying today. And you're overpaying with your time. You're overpaying with your eyeballs on ads.

You're overpaying with your personal private data. You're already invested so much into this that you have given up. All of us have signed away on the dotted line for our soul, for our energy, our time, our mental health, our personal relationships. Everything has become at a detriment to the cost for this thing called social media. We've already paid too much. They owe us. They owe us. They should be paying us dividends.

every single day for the eyeballs and the time and the money that we've put into this situation. And you can see that meta is $13 billion in revenue a year. X is a good one that doesn't have any revenue. They suck. They haven't figured out their business. YouTube, TikTok, they're all making hand over fist dollars, ridiculous amounts of money off of these things, off the, off of our backs, off of the content that you create content that I create, the content I consume, the content you consume all for free. have gotten most of this stuff for

absolutely free and that's bullshit. It's complete bullshit and we've agreed to this. We've just said, yeah, no problem. Here, I would like some fame. I would like some 15 minutes of fame. I would like some attention. I would like a dopamine hit and we think that this is worth it, but it's not. So social media is not worth paying for. In fact, they should be paying us and I think we're going to be waking up to this.

very soon and realizing that this is a detriment to society. This is a detriment to us as people, as personalities, as our mental health, like I said, our all physical health, physical health for sure. And we're going to start saying, no, no thanks. You can keep your Facebook, your X, you can keep your YouTube, your TikTok. I don't give a shit anymore. I'm going to go work things out with my family and my friends, go down, have a beer, get rid of social media. That's

That's where I think we're at. So yeah, that's my argument. Chris, I'm gonna say this and I'm gonna say it on camera. You win. That was my God. The greatest argument I have ever heard for this. this looks good. Wow. Is this what winning looks like? Really, really relish in this feeling right now. Relish? Anyway, enjoy. Must Yeah, that was beautiful. I usually don't say that you win. You win. That was perfect. And you've

You've turned me. I agree. amazing. They should pay us. Great. They should pay us. right, Chris wins. He's on board. That's the first time, that's the first winning debate like actually on the show today. So let us know what you think in the comments. I know this is a, if you're listening, if you're listening, you can't give us any comments, but if you're on YouTube or one of those social media platforms that I just literally ripped into, if you're on one of those platforms, give us a like.

Give us a mention, share us with your friends and your family and make them spend more time on social and subscribe to the podcast where every day we bring you guys a new marketing topic and we debate it. So thanks for tuning in. Thanks, buddy. I appreciate it. I've been Chris Kubbernus and this has been Steve Jobs. See you next week. And this has been the Marketing Topic. you tomorrow. Why do I keep you guys weak? I don't know. You're weird. See you. See you tomorrow.
